Photo Arts 4 - Project 4 Found Still Life
Location Film and Format: Small and Medium format, color and/or B/W. Shoot rolls of B/W and/or color. Digital shooting and 4 prints
Assignment: Found Still life -look for existing still lifes,they are all around you. People make small personal arrangements in their homes and offices, things are casually put down and seem to fall into place, into a natural relationship. It is possible to make one of these found still lifes by pouring out the contents of your pockets or bag or by opening a tool chest or art supply carrier. Let us keep the "still life" to objects and their immediate surroundings no street scenes, panoramas or people.
The still life may be intimate, with small objects of table top size, or larger with objects the size of trash cans. Not only is the compositional arrangement and angle of view of the set up important but one must be particularly aware of the light and its quality. You may want to wait for the light to change before shooting your photograph or you may have to come back another time to complete your shooting and give your photograph a different mood. Just because the project is "found" still life does not mean it can be treated casually. Spend time; look carefully; study the subject. The point of this assignment is to train your eye to see relationships of objects in space and in relationship to one another; to see the objects in relation to the light falling on them and their surroundings.
